Endless Ocean is one of those games that you love or hate so it’s gonna be endless fun or endless boredom. This is a game that some of you might even accuse of not being a game because of its nature. Let me warn you that there is no enemy to kill and no level to beat. Endless Ocean is a game where you get to do anything at your own pace and you don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to. You can even sit on the lounger and enjoy the view and your own music if you want, then go for a dive anytime you’re ready.

Throughout the game, you will get emails in your pda from people who need your help. Some might need pictures of certain fishes and others just want a diving guide to show them a fish they’ve been wanting to see. You’re not required to do those ‘missions’ but I suggest you do them anyway to get items like the underwater pen or diving gears.

Once you’re underwater in Endless Ocean, it’s a whole different world down there. You’ll encounter lots of fishes and other animals. I even saw stuff I never knew existed. What animal you get to see will depend on where you dive and there are enough different animals and diving spots to keep you busy for hours. Every animal that you encounter can be interacted with by poking them or petting them and if you interact with them long enough, you will find out their names. A couple of them will even become your partners and swim with you.

Encountering weird sea life is just part of the fun in Endless Ocean. Scattered around the sea of Manoa Lai are rare artifacts for you to discover. Some artifacts are broken and require you to find parts of it to piece together. The other thing I enjoy doing in Endless Ocean is taking pictures. You only get 20 exposures which I find to be less for those long dives. After developing the pictures you get to place them in an album to show off to your friends later, or just to look at by yourself if no one else finds the game interesting.

The nunchuck is not required to play this game and the controls are simple enough to easily get into. There are no violent movements in this game so you don’t have to worry about breaking things or people’s parts. You can actually play with one hand and munch on chips with the other. You can play like this guy too if you want.

This game is very relaxing and the music and sound effects reflect that. When I play Endless Ocean late at night, I can easily fall asleep listening to this game if I wanted to. I’m not saying the music is bad because it’s just right for this type of game, but you can use it as a sleep inducer if you’re tired. Luckily the makers allow you to listen to your own music from an SD memory card while you play.

The graphics in Endless Ocean are not eye popping but it gets the job done well enough to where you will not complain. The animals will sometimes go right through each other but they look good enough and move realistically. If the graphics were better, this game would be a little more fun, but it’s not bad as it is.

Endless Ocean is not your typical game with enemies to kill and levels to beat, but that doesn’t mean it’s boring. It’s an exploration game that will hold your attention if you give it a chance and will definitely educate you on ocean life if you do. It’s a pretty laid back game and if you’re a laid back person who loves ocean life or National Geographic or if you just want to try something new, Endless Ocean might be for you. If you’re not into these types of games, it can look boring at first glance. However, if you give it a try, you might get lost in Endless Ocean for hours.
